Whaddya mean, “Don’t jump to conclusions”??!

Many of us were waiting to see what the POTUS had to say about the horrific incident at Fort Hood, especially since he’s been delaying a decision about procedure in Afghanistan for months now (despite meeting with his hand picked ‘expert’ and ignoring his advice), and we see a few shout outs and some robotic references fresh from the teleprompter.

When his official comments are finally released, “The Changeling” tells us: “Don’t jump to conclusions”. What??  is he nuts?

Lets start from the beginning: A Muslim man gives away all of his worldly possessions, then a couple of days later,  takes his rifle and runs into a crowded room full of soldiers about to be deployed to Afghanistan,  gleefully starts yelling  “ALLAH AKBAR” at the top of his lungs, shoots everybody in sight, and then gets carted off to a hospital while the MSM saturates the airwaves with the story. Don’t jump to conclusions??? There’s only one conclusion we can come to:  This was JIHAD!

Jesus Christ, Barack, stop trying to shoot us through the breeze. As you found out after Tuesday’s elections, we’re not buying it!

Which brings us to our next topic: Sleight of hand, the stimulus package and other piles of bullshit (or Holiday hand-jobs, if you will):

Racking your brain trying to find that perfect Holiday gift for the kids?  Need a cheap “Secret Santa” gift for someone in the office (providing you’re one of the lucky few that still have a job?)

I am truly heartbroken

Yesterday’s massacre at Fort Hood was a sobering moment.  I am truly heartbroken. For our brave soldiers, for the obvious decline of our country, and for the cowardice of those whose only interest is their own public image and political capital.

I am embarrassed by our President, who, at 5PM offered only “shout-outs” and stuck to the script of his teleprompter; and when the tragedy at Fort Hood was finally mentioned, it was in an offhand manner that seemed to be one of those things you hope nobody would remember afterward, kind of like the warnings on some drugs, where “possible death” is thrown in between “restless leg syndrome” and “erections lasting four or more hours”.

I had planned on writing something so much more poignant today;  so much more substantive than this.  But my heart just won’t let me.

I did, however, find someone who articulates my feelings so much better than I am able to at this moment.

N.J. tells Obama ‘FUGGEDABOUTIT!”

Acorn

A.C.O.R.N. LOSES BIG-TIME IN GARDEN STATE

Forget the Sopranos. After making five trips to stump for incumbent N.J. Governor John Corzine and getting little or no traction, the White House pulled out the big guns yesterday and sent ACORN operatives to finish the job. If there’s anything we know about elections, it would be this:  The GOP controls Diebold, the DNC can  raise the dead to ‘get out the vote’ (especially with the help of ACORN).   So what went wrong?

As mentioned in a previous post, one of the things I admire most about my neighbors across the Hudson is their defiant refusal to take any shit from anyone – including the POTUS himself, it seems.

“After weeks of guilt-tripping that would put my own mother to shame (“this easy win will be a referendum on the Age of Obama.”), the President’s effort to galvanize New Jersey voters to rally behind him by supporting John Corzine was a dismal failure.”

Well, maybe it wasn’t a total failure. In the end (thanks to President Obama) New Jersey residents did manage to join together and collectively raise something, alright. Problem is, it wasn’t the expected support for the POTUS and his pet Governor.  Rather, it was a giant middle finger pointed squarely at the White House and anyone else who tried to strong-arm them.  Good for you.

We need to see more of that. And we did! (“Yes We Did!”) Read the rest of this entry »

“The Age of Obama” (and open thread)

Referendum My Ass.  Just read the numbers

All I’ve heard for the past several weeks is that the results of a few choice elections will be “a referendum on politics in the Age of Obama”.  The age of Obama?  Isn’t that a bit dramatic?

According to the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON – In a very early test of President Barack Obama’s political influence, two states are choosing whether to continue Democratic rule while voters elsewhere elect a handful of congressmen and big-city mayors.

Elected just a year ago, the president has spent a considerable amount of time and energy trying to ensure that Democrats win governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey and pick up a GOP-held congressional seat in upstate New York.

In doing so, Obama raised the stakes of a low-enthusiasm off-year election season – and risked political embarrassment if any lost.

And all three actually could lose. Which begs the question “Why would the POTUS put himself out there on a limb; betting his political future on the results of off-year elections?”

The answer is something you may have suspected: Read the rest of this entry »

“Bought and Sold in NYC”

( or “I might as well be living in fucking Venezuela”)

From the NYT, November 1, 2009: “As their aides fretted over the prospect of low turnout at the polls, the candidates for New York City mayor delivered last-minute appeals to voters on Sunday, with Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. urging New Yorkers to reject an incumbent “who thinks he’s above democracy,” and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg asking for a third term to “keep making progress.”

Well, that about says it all, doesn’t it? Tomorrow’s mayoral election has officially been bought by Mike Bloomberg. I suspect he also paid for his opponent, City Comptroller and raging Obot William Thompson whose only appeal is that he’s not Bloomberg.

Thompson’s lemming-like response last week when asked if President Obama had done enough for gay rights was the nail in his coffin (He said “Yes!  The POTUS inherited so many problems from George Bush, and I think he’s doing a wonderful job!) Stupid remark, since the LGBT community in NYC is a huge voting bloc.

(surprise bonus video about that at the end of this post)

Come to Caracas!

Friends ask: “How do you not lose your mind in the face of this? I answer: “Simple.  I just pretend I’m living in sunny Venezuela, where the dictator votes for you so you don’t have to bother”

There’s another bombshell on the NYC ballot that I’ll get to later, but right now, lets see what else is going on in the ‘hood… So, its off to the polls we go, pretending that we still live in America

Happy Halloween! (and Open Thread)

HALLOWEEN

The Neo-Libs

The holiday we now call Halloween was originally a harvest celebration in Celtic territories.  It represented the third and final harvest.  Much more reverent than the first (August 1 or “Llamas”) when fruits, flowers, herbs and medicinal plants were gathered and the second (September 21 or “Mabon”) when root vegetables, gourds and nuts were harvested, the third and final (October 31 or “Samhain”) was the harvest of souls.

On this day, the farmers separated their breeding stock from the rest of the herd, and the remaining animals were ritually slaughtered to provide meat for sustenance during the winter months.  The blood of these animals (which the Celts believed contained the life spark) was offered to the gods that created them, and the bodies were then butchered and the meat cured to provide “life within death”; or food during the winter, where many often died from exposure or lack of nourishment.

After the solemn sacrifice, the townspeople set aside enough food for themselves and their families (and a little more, in case the winter was longer than expected), and the rest was brought into the center of town, where the villagers went “shopping”;  that is, taking what they needed from the excess of others’ harvest.  It was a wonderful way to ensure the continuity of the community, and everyone shared what extra crops they had with neighbors.

There was also a custom called “Hecate’s Supper”, (named for the ancient Goddess who ushered you safely from life into death safely, and also from the womb into life) where everyone left food at the edge of town;  symbolically to feed the spirits of the departed (who were also honored on this holiday), but in reality, to feed the poor, the sick and those who were otherwise disenfranchised.  A lovely custom of sharing and community.

Over the centuries, Hecate’s Supper has morphed into trick-or-treating.  The Democratic Party that I once supported has also morphed into “neo-Libs”, pictured above in the cartoon that a friend sent me via email.

So with that in mind, let’s see whose gone trick or treating at the White House: Read the rest of this entry »

White House Loses Credibility (again)

Campbell Brown: “Jarrett seems loathe to admit that MSIBC has a bias”

Recently, Valerie Jarrett, also known as “the other half of Obama’s brain” told CNN’s Campbell Brown that FOX News was biased, focusing on the “lies” (which happened to be truths) they spread about healthcare reform.  To my surprise, Brown stood up to her and made the above comment about this issue last night.

Although I agree with Ms. Brown, I’m not a fan of FOX, CNN or MSNBC. I am, however, all for pointing out the hypocrisy in politics that we were promised would come to an end once “The One” took control of the White House.

I don’t for one minute believe Brown was doing anything other than taking a swipe at CNN’s competitor MSNBC, but sometimes, the truth comes out (even if by accident).  What I find even more interesting (but not addressed by Brown) is Jarrett’s familiar use of the word “We” when discussing the POTUS’ agenda.

Jarrett has been behind the POTUS (actually behind MO, since she asked for Jarrett’s approval before even going on a second date with BO) since his early days as a shiftless, lazy opportunist Community Organizer in Chicago;  a position that Jarrett arranged for him to occupy via her connections to Mayor Daley.

It all began with this interview:

Don’t F*ck Around With Love

Love Story

We’ve all been wondering what happened to Deadenders over the weekend. Today, thank the gods, the site is up and running again with this explanation:

“When my internet went out on Friday I thought it was just another one of BellSouth’s pain the the butt outages. When it was still out on Saturday morning I called and was told, “No it’s just you, your account has been flagged for spam and suspended. You need to call back on Monday.”

After spending an hour on the phone this morning with BellSouth begging to reinstate our service, they told me it was emails to me from WordPress, lots of them in a short period of time. When someone posts a comment WordPress sends an email to let me know it’s there or if it needs approved (first time poster).

The hate comments had been heavy on Friday and I guess they got heavier. 11,000+ delightful FU you damn RACIST, our president is black, suck on it comments, a poof goodbye internet.”

Ordinarily, I would just attribute this to a WordPress glitch, and assume that the high volume of hate mail caused the trigger mechanism to kick in.  But I read DE’s post shortly after hearing about the new FORTUNE MAGAZINE cover (a picture of which is predictably nowhere to be found) that boasts of a  new article called “Obama & Google (a love story)”

The header of the article alleges: “The President relies on Google Execs for tech and economic advice as his own regulators scrutinize the online-ad behemoth. Is the romance starting to sour?”

Maybe so, but what about this other article printed in the New York Times in June of last year that might explain things a little further? Read the rest of this entry »

Saturday Open Thread: Politics makes Strange Deadfellows

vangogh_lazarus copy

This is one of the few paintings by Vincent van Gogh on a biblical theme. It shows Lazarus just after having been risen from the dead.

The Bible has it that Jesus performed the miracle out of respect for the sisters’ conviction that their brother would not have died if Jesus had been around.

However, it was also annoyance about their constant lamenting that made him do it. (sound familiar?)

And with that, off we go into our Saturday Open Thread. Hello everyone, and welcome to our Saturday Open Thread where anything goes.

We’ll get right into an account of this week’s miracles, but first – How about those incredibly shrinking poll numbers? Still falling, I see.  Rapidly.  But don’t worry – there’s a few tricks up the sleeves of our favorite politicians that will fix that.  All it takes is a good old fashioned miracle, like this one:

“Something called Politics” (and Open Thread)

Carville: “This is something called politics. There is nothing wrong with that at all”

This is probably not the result that White House officials had in mind when they came up with the strategy of marginalizing Fox News. Last night Anderson Cooper had on guests James Carville (D) and Kevin Madden (R) to debate a growing meme that should concern the Obama administration: do they have a “Nixon-type enemies list”?

The discussion came after the cable news network aired a clip Senator Lamar Alexander on the Senate floor making the specific comparison between Nixon and Obama, offering the friendly suggestion that the current administration change tactics, saying “as those of us who worked in the Nixon administration know, that can get you into a lot of trouble.”

Carville’s opening point focused on the fact that 11 Nixon officials went to jail, presuming somehow that attacking a media outlet is somehow okay if it’s all legal.

But he summed up with a rather basic, but true position that this is “something called politics” – that same little “Something” that (then) Senator Obama claimed he would completely obliterate from Washington should he be elected President. As we now know, this was far from the truth.

Carville later admitted Read the rest of this entry »
